Pune Suicide Case: FIR Filed Against Former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, Wife And Others After Contractor Dies By Suicide
Pune, July 17, 2026: Swargate Police have registered an FIR against former Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, his wife and several others for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 65-year-old labour and centering contractor from Gultekdi, who allegedly ended his life after leaving behind videos and handwritten suicide notes accusing his business associates of prolonged harassment and financial exploitation.
The FIR was registered late on Thursday, a day after the contractor was found dead at his residence. The case has been filed based on a complaint lodged by the deceased’s wife under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to abetment of suicide and other offences.
Family Alleges Years of Mental Harassment
According to the complaint, the contractor had been under severe mental stress for several years due to disputes over financial transactions linked to his centering business.
His family alleged that continuous threats, intimidation, abuse and financial pressure from those involved in the business dealings pushed him to take the extreme step.
Former MLA, Wife Among Those Named in FIR
The FIR names former MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, his wife Shyam Kolapkar, Vishal Kedari, Sunil Ayyar, Raghu Gowda, Sunil Bora, Raj Sethiya, Hamid Shaikh, Balasaheb Shedge, Shubham, and several others as accused.
Videos and Suicide Notes Surface
Before his death, the contractor allegedly recorded multiple videos and left behind two handwritten suicide notes.
In the videos, which surfaced on social media before the FIR was registered, he claimed he had suffered financial losses amounting to several lakhs of rupees after being cheated by his business associates. He alleged that he was repeatedly threatened and specifically named former corporator Balasaheb Shedge and former Kasba Peth MLA Ravindra Dhangekar, accusing them of pressuring and intimidating him.
He further claimed that despite investing heavily in the business, he was never paid his dues, leaving him in severe financial distress.
The complaint also alleges that one of the accused, Balasaheb Shedge, retained the contractor’s centering material, further worsening his financial situation.
Police Probe Underway
According to police, the alleged harassment continued over an extended period before the contractor died on the intervening night of Wednesday and Thursday.
Senior Police Inspector Yeshwant Nikam said that an Accidental Death Report (ADR) was initially registered. After recording the statement of the deceased’s family members and recovering two separate suicide notes, an FIR was subsequently lodged naming the accused.
Police have sent the body for forensic examination and are analysing the suicide notes, video recordings and financial transactions referred to by the deceased. Investigators are also verifying the role of each accused in the alleged harassment.
As of Thursday night, no arrests had been made in the case.
