Pune: NIBM Annex Residents Demand Immediate PMC Action Over Sewage Overflow Behind Archana Paradise
Pune, July 21, 2026: Residents of NIBM Annex, Mohammadwadi, have appealed to the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) to urgently address the continuous flow of sewage water in a canal behind Archana Paradise Phases 1, 2 and 3 and Krishna Nagar, alleging that the issue has remained unresolved despite repeated complaints.
In a representation addressed to PMC Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, residents said the untreated sewage flowing through the canal has created a major public health hazard and severely affected the quality of life in the locality.
According to the residents, the stagnant sewage has resulted in an unhygienic environment, with foul odour lingering throughout the day. They also expressed concern over the increasing mosquito population, warning that the situation could lead to the spread of vector-borne diseases such as dengue and malaria, particularly during the monsoon season.
Residents further stated that the polluted water poses a risk to the health of children, senior citizens and other residents living in the vicinity. They alleged that despite lodging multiple complaints with the civic body, no effective action has been taken by the concerned PMC officials.
“NIBM Annex is one of South Pune’s prominent residential localities and is home to several tax-paying citizens. It is disappointing that such a serious civic issue has remained unattended for so long,” the residents said in their complaint.
Expressing dissatisfaction with the civic administration’s response, the residents have urged the Municipal Commissioner to intervene personally and ensure that the issue is resolved without further delay.
The residents have sought the following actions from the PMC:
- Immediate deployment of a team to stop the sewage discharge and clean the affected area.
- Permanent repair of the drainage system to prevent future sewage overflow.
- Action against officials responsible for failing to address repeated complaints.
- A site visit by the Municipal Commissioner to assess the situation firsthand.
The residents said they hope the civic administration will treat the matter as a priority, considering the potential health risks and environmental impact on hundreds of families residing in the area. They have warned that if prompt action is not taken, the situation could worsen during the ongoing monsoon, further affecting public health and sanitation.
