Pune, 25 July 2026: Maharashtra Natural Gas Limited (MNGL) has established a robust network of 131 CNG stations, catering to more than 6 lakh CNG vehicles across the Pune and PimpriChinchwad Municipal Corporation (PMC & PCMC) areas, with a daily CNG consumption of over 14.0 Lacs standard cubic meters (SCMD).
At present, the Pune and PCMC regions are currently being supplied with natural gas from City Gate Stations (CGS) established at Chikhali and Talegaon, with the primary gas supply sourced from GAIL’s integrated Dahej-Uran-Dabhol-Panvel (DUPL-DPPL) natural gas pipeline network.
As the adoption of CNG continues to increase, resulting in occasional supply constraints during peak demand, MNGL is proactively strengthening its gas distribution infrastructure to ensure reliable and uninterrupted service. The company is at an advanced stage of commissioning pipeline looping works in the Talegaon area, which will significantly enhance network capacity and improve operational resilience. In addition, MNGL has commenced work on connecting an alternate gas supply source from PIL’s East-West Pipeline (EWPL), located approximately 60 km from Pune.
As part of this initiative, the company is laying around 60 km of steel trunk pipeline (STPL) from Navhare to MNGL’s Pune Geographical Area (GA), providing an additional and reliable source of natural gas. This project will further strengthen the city’s gas supply network and improve overall system reliability. Another pipeline looping project has also been initiated in the Dighi area to reinforce the gas distribution infrastructure. These initiatives represent long-term and permanent solutions for ensuring supply security across the Pune and PCMC areas.
CNG dealers, who serve as MNGL’s extended distribution partners, have been regularly informed about the company’s ongoing infrastructure developments and sustained eAorts to strengthen the CNG supply network. During the monsoon season, CNG demand typically experiences a temporary surge as commuters increasingly prefer four-wheelers over two-wheelers.
To cater to the steadily growing CNG demand as well as this seasonal increase, MNGL has commissioned 11 new CNG stations across Pune and PCMC over the past year, significantly enhancing CNG compression and dispensing capacity. Building on this momentum, the company plans to commission nine additional Retail Outlets (ROs) during the current financial year. These new outlets will further improve accessibility, enhance dispensing capacity, and reduce customer waiting time as demand continues to grow.
As part of its customer-centric initiatives, MNGL has also installed around 17 additional CNG dispensers at high-demand Retail Outlets to reduce queues during peak hours, improve vehicle turnaround time, and enhance overall operational eAiciency. The company has also planned the installation of eight more dispensers across its CNG network.
With its aggressive expansion plans for new CNG outlets across the Pune Geographical Area, MNGL remains committed to strengthening the region’s CNG infrastructure, improving accessibility, enhancing customer convenience, and supporting the growing adoption of clean and sustainable mobility solutions. Beyond CNG, MNGL today caters to the Piped Natural Gas (PNG) infrastructure of over 8.50 Lakhs Households and more than 1000 Industrial and Commercial customers across the Pune and PCMC areas.
MNGL has established a strong pipeline network of more than 2700 Kms to serve this PNG infrastructure. Presently, more than 4.55 Lac Households are consuming PNG. Building on this progress, MNGL has undertaken an accelerated infrastructure expansion programme to further increase PNG penetration in the domestic segment.
Prior to the recent surge in demand, MNGL used to provide PNG infrastructure to around 180-190 households per day, equivalent to approximately 6,000 households per month. Today, the company is providing around 500 PNG connections per day, or nearly 15,000 connections per month, an increase of approximately 250%. To meet the anticipated growth in demand, MNGL is significantly enhancing its execution capabilities through contractor mobilization, deployment of additional technical teams, and expansion of its skilled workforce.
The company is also collaborating with technical institutes and training centers to develop trained manpower for pipeline installation, meter installation, commissioning, and other specialized City Gas Distribution (CGD) activities. With these initiatives, MNGL expects to further scale up its execution capacity to more than 800 PNG connections per day.
