Maharashtra Governor delays the appointment of MLC in twelve vacant seats; reflects political differences
The Governor of Maharashtra, Bhagat Singh Koshyari, has delayed the appointment of MLC in 12 seats that fell vacant since June 12, 2020
The chemistry between the State government and the Governor of Maharashtra has had been dicey and contradictory since the formation of Mahavikas Aghadi into power. However, on 15th June, 2020, a group of Pune, under the initiative ‘Citizens for Good Governance in Maharashtra’, has had sent recommendations for six eminent persons who are eligible enough to lead the positions.

The recent press conference conducted by the members of the group – Vaishali Patkar, Pushkar Kulkarni, Shailendra Patel – it was informed that the governor was also sent reminder mails, too, on 28th July, 13th Aug and 10th Sep of 2020, but the mails seen yet ignored. Thereafter, the Governor through an article had announced that he hadn’t received any proposal for nomination for filling the vacant seat from the MVA Government.

Commenting on the vacancy and appointment of public preferred personalities for MLC, Shailendra Patel said, “It’s a growing need for the government and the governor to understand that the six nominees we have sent through our initiative, are qualified enough to fill the vacant seats. These personalities have been selected by the people of the state because of their expertise in the particular departments. We truly need a good governance that will reflect a flawless development, so, I appeal to entire Maharashtra to come forward and help us take this initiative ahead.”
While addressing the question raised by Pune Pulse: How would the group reach out to the government and the governor for their lack of co-operation regarding the still left vacant MLC seats, Vaishali Patkar replied, “We would follow up with the mails for the coming week, and if the mails still go ignored, we will file an RTI query.”

When Pune Pulse reached out to RTI activist to take a note of the mails sent to and ignored by the governor, she Qaneez Sukhrani, said, “The mails recommending the names of the six nominees having expertise in their particular fields have been sent to the governor. He first ignored the mails and then released it in the press that he hasn’t received any such proposal from the state government. My question to him is: why is he playing politics? The governor should have mailed the recommendations to the state government as he is responsible towards checking the recommendations and then forwarding them to the state government.”
She further said, “Government has just said that the file is with CM, but hasn’t cleared whether it has been signed or given comments by the CM.”
