The border rifts between India and China, since the past six months has led to a massive boycott of China products in Indian market. Currently in Pune and PCMC market, the Chinese products are seemingly on the verge of total boycott as the demand for Indian products is booming.
First time in the last couple of years, the sale of Chinese products during Diwali has gone down from 80 % to just 20 % in Pune market. According to the information shared by Pune Traders Association, only 20 % of Chinese products are being sold as the association had asked every shopkeeper to avoid selling the chinese products. The shop keepers, too, are voluntarily stepping ahead to avoid selling the chinese products.
Pune Pulse, while speaking with Mahendra Pitaliya, secretary of the association, said, “We had advised every shop keeper in the association to avoid selling Chinese products. This initiative is in the favor of our country. I want to thank even the consumers who have stood stood with our decision and are showing great demand for Indian products. At least, people have understood that Indian products have a good quality.”
Talkingbto V.K. Electricals, Khadki, owned by Sanjay Karamchandani, said, “There is extremely high demand for Indian products ever since border tension between India and China. During Diwali period, we have sold 90 % of Indian electrical products compared to Chinese goods; and hence, we have returned the stock of Chinese products.”
Another road side seller, Rafiq shaikh in Pimpri said, “For the first time I am observing that people are inquiring if the product is Indian. If Chinese, then they straight way step back from buying it. I am still carrying 40 % of Chinese while 60 % Indian. Only 5 % of my total Chinese stock has been sold while 35 – 40 % of my Indian stock has already been sold.”
Vinay Electrical from Kasarwadi, while talking to Pune Pulse said, “I expected this outcome few months ago, and so, I did not buy the stock of China products this time. Indian products are high on demand, but only time will tell if this will be long term or occasional.”
