Construction for lightweight and energy saving coaches has begun for the prestigious Pune Metro. The construction for Pune Metro’s Vanaz to Ramwadi and PCMC to Swargate is 48 percent complete. The viaducts, station depot, underground ways work is in progress. The contract for coaches for Pune Metro was given to Titagarh – firema company. The construction for the coaches has begun in its factory based in Kolkata, where this company shall provide 34 train sets for 3 train coaches.

The miniature designs of these coaches were unveiled on January 9, 2021 at Titagarh- Firema company by Durgashankar Mishra (Chairman Mahametro and secretary, City Development Ministry, Govt of India), Dr Brijesh Dixit managing director, Maha Metro, Sunil Mathur, director, MahaMetro. These coaches are made in aluminium, and are among the most lightweight coaches ever used in metro coaches.

The axle load for the metro vehicles is 15.4 tonnes, this will enable it to save 2 percent diesel. Each coach shall have seating capacity of 48 passengers, and over 850 passengers can be accommodated at once. The inspection of the glass would be completed by the month of May 2021.
