Bengaluru, September 29 : Common people suffered the most during the bandh call mostly in southern parts of Karnataka given by pro-Kannada outfits, which protested against Congress government releasing Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu at the time of distress.

Hordes of commuters suffered a lot as air, road and metro services went out of service. They also missed flights, buses and trains due to lack of transportation means.

As many as 44 to and fro flights from Kempegowda International Airport in the city were cancelled as farmers and pro-Kannada outfits staged protests outside Kempegowda International Airport. They gathered near the arrival gate to register their protest.

Two more flights from Mangaluru airport were also cancelled. However, Mysuru flight operations were not affected.

The Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) also suffered business wise. The worst-affected divisions, as expected, were Mysuru and Chamarajngar, which are adjacent to Mandya district. Majority of the Cauvery river water flows through Mandya district before flowing into Tamil Nadu.

Agitators also blocked roads in major cities of the state including Bengaluru, leading to a chaotic situation due to traffic disruptions.

Section 144 was imposed in several districts of Karnataka, including Bengaluru Urban, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara, and Hassan.

However, the bandh call received a cold response in Kalyan-Karnataka region, including Ballari, Kalaburagi and Vijayanagara districts. Buses, autorickshaw and cab services were as usual.
