Pune: India is poised to receive its inaugural Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) in the form of RapidX. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will officially inaugurate the priority section of the Delhi-Ghaziabad-Meerut RRTS on October 20, with commuter services commencing on October 21.
This particular section of the rapid rail system will cover a 17-kilometre stretch, encompassing five stations.
The RRTS, developed by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC), aims to enhance urban mobility within the region. Spanning a total length of 82 kilometres, the transit system will comprise 24 stations between Delhi and Meerut.
As part of the priority section, five stations, namely Sahibabad, Ghaziabad, Guldhar, Duhai, and the Duhai Depot will become operational. Regarding ticket prices for the Delhi-Meerut RRTS, the NCRTC has recently announced that fares for Rapidx will vary based on the class of coach chosen by commuters.
As per the information received, for Standard Class, ticket prices will range from Rs 20 to Rs 50. The maximum charge for the route between Sahibabad and Duhai Depot will be Rs 50. On the other hand, Premium Class passengers can expect fares ranging from Rs 40 to Rs 100.
The Delhi-Meerut Rapid Rail Transit System (RRTS) offers a range of ticketing options to cater to the needs of commuters. These options include digital tickets with QR codes, which can be easily accessed and used. Additionally, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) can also be utilized for ticketing purposes, as stated by the National Capital Region Transport Corporation (NCRTC).
For those who prefer traditional methods, paper tickets with QR codes are available, as well as ticket vending machines (TVMs) for convenient purchase of tickets. In accordance with the regulations, children under 90 cm in height are entitled for free travel on RapidX trains, ensuring accessibility for families.
The RapidX system is designed to provide high-speed and high-frequency transportation, with the capability to reach speeds of up to 180 kmph.
However, the operational speed will be limited to approximately 160 kmph, while maintaining an average speed of 100 kmph. Each air-conditioned RapidX train set has a total capacity of 1700 passengers, including those standing. The train consists of 6 coaches, arranged in a 2×2 seating layout. Among these coaches, there is one luxury coach and five regular coaches.
Notably, one of the regular coaches is exclusively reserved for women, ensuring their comfort and safety during their journey. Overall, the Delhi-Meerut RRTS provides a comprehensive range of facilities and services to enhance the commuting experience for passengers.
