Pune sees rise in e-marriage registrations
PUNE: The marriage registration process previously required a two-month waiting period, causing inconvenience to several people.
However, the registration and stamp department has now introduced an online system for conducting marriage registrations.
This new system has received positive feedback and has resulted in 1,919 online marriages being registered in the state, with 938 of them being in Pune alone.
The new system, known as registration marriage 2.0, simplifies the process by allowing couples to give notice online and decide on a marriage date within two months from the second day after the notice period expires.
This facility is currently available in Pune, Solapur, and Nagar districts since June. As of now, 4,039 people in the state have received online notices for marriage.
The number of marriages conducted through online registration in the state has reached a total of 1,919. Among these, Pune has recorded the highest number of marriages, with a total of 938.
This can be attributed to the presence of a larger number of IT companies in Pune, which has led to an increased utilization of technology in various aspects, including marriage registration.
Consequently, Pune has emerged as a frontrunner in online marriage registration within the state. In addition to Pune, other districts in the state have also witnessed online marriages. Thane recorded 257 marriages, Amravati had 16, Bhandara had 3, Akola had 21, Solapur had 53, Nashik had 219, Nagar had 107, Dhule had 43, Jalgaon had 4, Nanded had 26, Latur had 3, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar had 23, Kolhapur had 7, Nagpur had 37, Wardha had 2, Parbhani had 2, Gondia had 1, Palghar had 35, Satara had 23, Mumbai Suburban had 84, and Mumbai had 15.
Initially introduced as a pilot project in Pune district in June, the online marriage registration process has now been extended to the entire state. A total of 36 marriage registration offices across the state have been connected to the website, allowing for a streamlined and efficient registration process.
Abhishek Deshmukh, Deputy Inspector General of Registration (Computer), has confirmed this development. In the year 2022, a significant number of online marriages have taken place in the state, totaling 36,000. Out of these, Pune accounted for 7,900 marriages, while Mumbai recorded 7,600 marriages. The remaining districts in the state witnessed a total of 20,500 online marriages.
