Weather Alert: IMD Issues Orange Alert for Snow, Hailstorm, and Heavy Rain in Multiple States

Heavy Rain Expected Across Maharashtra: Orange and Yellow Alerts Issued
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a comprehensive weather advisory, predicting significant weather events across various states until March 3. The Western Himalayan Region is expected to witness intense rainfall/snowfall during this period.
Earlier, an orange alert has been issued for isolated hailstorms in West Madhya Pradesh, Haryana-Chandigarh, Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh, West Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, and East Rajasthan on March 2. Himachal Pradesh had been placed on high alert, with an orange warning for thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms, and heavy rains in several districts from March 1 to 2.
A yellow alert for thunderstorms and lightning is in place for March 3. The state recently experienced disruptions due to fresh snowfall, closing numerous roads and highways.
In Uttarakhand, isolated heavy rainfall/snowfall was predicted on March 2, particularly in districts like Uttarkashi, Rudraprayag, Chamoli, Bageshwar, and Pithoragarh. The region may also witness thunderstorms, lightning, hail, and gusty winds in specific areas.
Jammu and Kashmir are expecting widespread moderate rain or snow until March 3, with heavy snowfall likely in higher reaches. The plains of Kashmir and Jammu may experience varying degrees of rain, with the possibility of heavy rain in certain districts.
Northeast India, including Arunachal Pradesh and Sikkim, anticipates scattered rainfall and snowfall over the next six days, intensifying on March 4 in Arunachal Pradesh and March 3 in Sikkim.
Additionally, yellow alerts have been issued for heavy rain in isolated places across Uttarakhand and North East India. In Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh-Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and north Madhya Pradesh, scattered to widespread light to moderate rainfall is expected, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds until March 3.
The North East, including Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura, is predicted to experience isolated light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning from March 3 to March 6.
