A group of activists is set to gather in front of Katraj Zoo on December 28 to protest the captivity and exploitation of animals. The event, titled “Face the Truth,” aims to raise awareness about the suffering of animals kept in zoos and highlight the objectification of animals across various industries.

The activists plan to carry placards with powerful messages, such as “Dairy destroys motherhood” and “Fishes belong to the ocean.” Footage showcasing the brutal realities of industries like dairy and egg farming is also expected to be displayed to educate the public.

“Animals are not here for our entertainment or profit,” said Saee Manakant, a key organizer. “Captivity strips them of their freedom, families, and natural lives, reducing them to mere objects of amusement. Zoos symbolize our flawed perception of animals as resources, not sentient beings with emotions and rights.”

The activists will also address the broader spectrum of animal exploitation, from food to fashion, entertainment, and experimentation. Abhishek, a passionate activist, emphasized, “We’ve conditioned ourselves to believe that exploiting animals is normal, but it’s not. Breeding, abusing, and killing animals for a meal, milk, or material gain is a choice—not a necessity. These sentient beings deserve respect and freedom, not lives of suffering for human pleasure.”

The activists urge the public to reconsider their actions and stop funding animal exploitation in all forms. “As we step into the New Year, let’s reflect on the impact of our choices,” Saee Manakant said. “Let’s give animals the justice they deserve and be fair to all living beings. Animals deserve to live freely, not to be exploited for our benefit.”
