Pune, January 17, 2025: In response to increasing traffic congestion and accidents, Additional Commissioner of Police (Eastern Region) Manoj Patil visited the Undri, Mohammadwadi, NIBM, and Kondhwa areas on Thursday. He directed traffic division inspectors to implement measures ensuring smoother traffic flow and enhanced road safety.

The move follows rising complaints from residents and the tragic death of a 34-year-old dentist on January 8, who was struck by a truck near Kanade nagar near Undri Chowk On Undri-Saswad Road.

During the visit, Patil instructed officials from the Kondhwa and Kade Padal traffic divisions to collaborate with Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) road engineering department. He emphasized the need for road planning aligned with the civic body’s Development Plan (DP) to address congestion and safety issues.

Key directives included urging PMC to resolve encroachments, expedite hawker removal, and complete pending road construction and repairs. Patil also announced a detailed survey of traffic bottlenecks and recurring accident sites. The traffic divisions were tasked with preparing safety plans that incorporate citizen feedback.

Despite these efforts, local residents remain doubtful about the impact of these measures. The Mohammadwadi Undri Residents Welfare Development Foundation (MURWDF) pointed out that Undri was merged into PMC in 2017, yet its Development Plan remains unapproved, further delaying necessary infrastructure improvements. The foundation has been consistently raising their voice against the delay in publishing the DPR for Undri (among the 34 merged villages) as many development works such as water supply, drainage, road development, and other basic amenities are still lacking despite paying hefty taxes for the last 7 years.
