Actor seeks injunction against misuse of his name, voice, and image online

Days after Aishwarya Rai Bachchan moved the Delhi High Court to safeguard her personality rights, actor Abhishek Bachchan has filed a similar plea seeking protection against the unauthorised use of his name, image, voice, and persona across online platforms.

Justice Tejas Karia, who heard Bachchan’s plea today, indicated that the Court could direct Google and other intermediaries to take down infringing links once specific URLs are submitted. This mirrors his remarks during Aishwarya Rai’s hearing earlier this week, where he said that injunctions would be issued against platforms and individuals misusing her likeness.

According to the petition filed by advocates Ameet Naik and Pravin Anand of Anand and Naik, Abhishek’s photographs, voice, and likeness are being misappropriated through AI-generated and deepfake content, unauthorised videos on YouTube, wallpapers, and even merchandise sales. The plea stresses that such use, whether for commercial gain or otherwise, violates his publicity, copyright, and personality rights.

Bachchan’s lawyers have also requested that the order extend to “John Doe” defendants—unnamed parties who may engage in similar infringements in the future.

This case adds to a growing list of Bollywood celebrities turning to the judiciary for protection in the digital age. Amitabh BachchanAnil Kapoor, and Jackie Shroff have previously secured landmark injunctions from the Delhi High Court safeguarding their names, voices, and likeness from misuse.

In a statement, Ameet Naik emphasised the importance of swift judicial intervention: “The Delhi High Court has delivered landmark orders in protecting the personality rights of leading actors. With evolving technology and AI, misuse is rampant, and taking down infringing URLs is a necessary step. Full credit to Mr Pravin Anand for leading this fight to protect our clients.”

Earlier this week, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan had approached the Court citing the circulation of AI-morphed, intimate fake images online. Justice Karia then ordered the immediate removal of 151 URLs flagged in her petition, with broader injunctions expected against repeat violators.

The Court has now scheduled further hearings in both Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Abhishek Bachchan’s petitions on January 15, 2026.
