Pune, August 9, 2025 – A light yet politically loaded moment unfolded during a birthday programme for veteran actor and environmentalist Sayaji Shinde when Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar was interrupted mid-speech by a concerned activist.
The activist appealed to Pawar, in his capacity as Guardian Minister, to stop widespread tree cutting in areas like Durga Devi and the MIDC belt.
“Thousands of trees are being felled… as Guardian Minister, I request you to intervene,” the activist said.
Pawar, without missing a beat, quipped, “After hearing all this, I wonder how I became Pune’s Guardian Minister!” His remark drew laughter from the audience as he added, “Everyone’s giving me advice these days… as if I’m the only one responsible. Anyway, thank you.”
Though made in jest, Pawar’s comments have set off speculation in political circles about the underlying target of his remarks, reviving past jibes linked to the Guardian Minister’s role.
