Age No Barrier: Majority of Women Explore Adventure Travel After 45
A recent survey has unveiled a significant shift in women’s travel preferences, highlighting a growing interest in adventure travel among women in their mid-forties. The study, conducted by Aquaterra Adventures, analyzed responses from 10,000 women across tier 1 and tier 2 cities, shedding light on the evolving travel choices and priorities of Indian women.
Rise of Adventure Travel Among Women
The findings reveal that an increasing number of women aged 45 to 55 are embracing adventure travel as a means of self-discovery, personal growth, and breaking free from societal norms. With greater disposable income, reduced family responsibilities, and more free time, many women are now choosing solo trips or group adventures with like-minded travelers.
“Over the last 30 years in adventure travel, 50% are women solo travelers seeking the outdoors to feel liberated. At this age, most of them have completed their family duties, with children out of school, and they feel the need to explore and get out of their comfort zones,” said Vaibhav Kala, founder of Aquaterra Adventures India Pvt Ltd.
Safety and Companionship: Key Factors for Female Travelers
While safety remains a top concern for solo female travelers, the survey also highlights the growing importance of companionship. Many women prefer to travel in groups with like-minded individuals, emphasizing the value of shared experiences and camaraderie.
Additionally, for women navigating personal transitions such as divorce or personal loss, adventure travel serves as a therapeutic escape, allowing them to reflect, rejuvenate, and gain clarity.
Mountains: The Preferred Destination for Women Travelers
According to the survey, mountains rank as the most preferred destination for solo female travelers. Popular adventure destinations include: Dolomites, Italy
Manaslu Circuit, Nepal
This shift highlights a growing desire for exploration, challenge, and connection with nature, marking a transformational change in women’s travel trends.
As adventure travel continues to gain traction among women, the industry is expected to see a rise in women-friendly travel experiences, group tours, and safer travel options, catering to this expanding segment.
