In a major development in the Air India Flight 171 crash investigation, authorities have recovered the flight’s black box from the rooftop of a medical hostel building that the aircraft struck moments after take-off. The Ahmedabad-London Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner tragically crashed on Thursday, killing 265 people, including passengers and crew. Only one survivor has been reported.

The Ministry of Civil Aviation confirmed that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) retrieved the Flight Data Recorder (FDR)—commonly known as the black box—within 28 hours of the crash. The device, located near the aircraft’s tail, is crucial in uncovering the sequence of events leading to the crash. It records vital technical data and cockpit conversations.

“This marks a critical step in the investigation,” said Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu, praising the coordinated efforts of AAIB and Gujarat state teams.
