Pune: Garbage in the Dehu Road Cantonment area is burnt in large quantities. Due to this, the citizens of Rupeenagar and Talawade areas are suffering a lot. Therefore, MLA Mahesh Landge demanded that the state government should take the initiative and set up a project for the disposal of waste in the cantonment area.
Mahesh Landge, BJP MLA, Bhosari constituency said, “The state government decided to cancel the proposed garbage depot at Punawale due to opposition from local citizens, newly developed housing societies as well as schools and colleges. We welcome this decision. Along with this, Moshi Garbage Depot is brought to Dehu Road Cantonment limits for disposal of waste. Or illegally this waste is burnt within the municipal limits. We Pimpri-Chinchwadkars are facing the consequences. The attention of the state government has been drawn to take measures on this.”
As per information, in the ongoing winter session at Nagpur, there was an interesting discussion about the proposed Punawale Garbage Depot in Pimpri-Chinchwad. MLA Landge participated in this discussion. The state government has cancelled the garbage depot considering the opposition from the locals. He congratulated MLA Ashwini Jagtap for this and welcomed the decision of the state government. Also, the stress on the Moshi garbage depot and the garbage problem at the Dehu and Alandi pilgrimage sites were also pointed out.
MLA Mahesh Landge said that for the past 40 years, the residents of Moshi and the surrounding area have been suffering from the stench of garbage depots. The ‘Waste to Energy’ project has been implemented at this place in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. At present there is no waste treatment plant within Dehu Road Cantonment limits.
The daily waste collected is burnt within the boundaries of Rupee Nagar-Talawade villages.
Due to this, the problem of citizens’ health has been reported. Citizens are complaining of smoke and stench. On this, the municipal corporation had given a letter to the Cantonment regarding the disposal of waste. However, no action was taken on it. So that the waste has to be taken to the Moshi waste depot.
In Sri Kshetra Dehu and Srikshetra Alandi there is a need to take initiative from the state government for solid waste management. A positive decision should be taken regarding setting up waste projects in Dehu and Alandi. Also, waste from Dehu road cantonment limits is illegally burnt in Pimpri-Chinchwad municipal limits. Is the state government going to give any instructions on that? This question was raised by MLA Landge.
On this, Cabinet Minister Uday Samant said that the state government will take a positive stand for solid waste projects in Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipality and Dehu Road Cantonment as well as Shri kshetra Dehu and Shri Kshetra Alandi.
