Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar on Monday assured swift action to tackle Pune’s worsening traffic issues. He announced plans to meet officials from various departments in the next 15 days to discuss solutions.

Pawar visited the accident site near Kesnand Phata on the Pune-Ahilyanagari highway, where a rashly driven dumper killed three people early Monday morning.

“This is my first tour of Pune after becoming deputy chief minister,” Pawar said. He added that he reviewed several ongoing projects in the district, including the Pune Metro, the ring road, and other initiatives under the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA).

Pawar acknowledged the growing traffic problems in Pune. “I will prioritize this issue and meet officials from the police department, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC), Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC), the district collector, and the divisional commissioner,” he said.

Earlier in the day, Pawar held discussions with senior officials on various developmental projects in the district.

The deputy chief minister also reviewed preparations at two key sites. These included the victory pillar in Perne Phata near Koregaon Bhima and the Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj memorial in Tulapur.

Pawar’s visit comes amid increasing public concern over traffic congestion and safety on Pune’s roads. His assurance of a focused approach to address these issues has brought hope to residents grappling with daily commuting challenges.

Further meetings with officials are expected to provide clarity on actionable steps to improve traffic management in the city.
