Amarnath Yatra Halted Due To Heavy Rains; No Movement From Base Camps
Srinagar | July 30, 2025 — The annual Amarnath Yatra has been temporarily suspended due to heavy rainfall in the Kashmir region, affecting pilgrim movement along both the Pahalgam and Baltal routes.
Officials confirmed that the yatra has been suspended for July 30 from both the Pahalgam and Baltal base camps. The Department of Information and Public Relations (DIPR), Jammu and Kashmir, made the announcement on social media, citing safety concerns caused by continuous rainfall.
Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, Vijay Kumar Bidhuri, stated that the decision was taken as a precautionary measure due to persistent downpours since early Wednesday morning, which have made the tracks unsafe for travel.
The suspension will also extend to the Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu on Thursday, July 31, with no pilgrim convoys allowed to proceed towards the base camps at Baltal and Nunwan/Chandanwari.
“So far, over 3.93 lakh devotees have completed the pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine,” the DIPR noted. Authorities are closely monitoring the weather situation and will resume the yatra once conditions improve.
Pilgrims have been advised to remain at their respective camps and await further updates from officials.
