New Delhi, October 8, 2025: Union Home Minister Amit Shah has joined the growing list of Indian ministers embracing homegrown software, switching to Zoho Mail amid the government’s push for ‘swadeshi’ digital platforms against the backdrop of rising US tariffs.

Announcing the change on X (formerly Twitter), Shah wrote:
“Hello everyone, I have switched to Zoho Mail. Kindly note the change in my email address. My new email address is [email protected]. For future correspondence via mail, kindly use this address.”

What grabbed attention, however, was Shah’s sign-off: “Thank you for your kind attention to this matter,” reminiscent of former US President Donald Trump’s style on social media, quickly sparking memes online.

Zoho Mail, pitched as India’s alternative to Gmail and Microsoft Outlook, has been gaining traction in government and business circles. Zoho co-founder Sridhar Vembu expressed his gratitude, tweeting that the move validates the hard work of Zoho’s engineers who stayed in India over the past 20 years.

Shah’s adoption follows other ministers, including IT Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw, who recently announced his switch to Zoho’s office suite for documents, spreadsheets, and presentations. The move aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s call for indigenous platforms and the government’s efforts to reduce dependency on foreign technology amid trade pressures.

Zoho Mail and office tools are already being integrated across various government departments. The Education Ministry has directed officials to use Zoho instead of Microsoft Office and Google Workspace for official work, marking a significant step in India’s atmanirbhar digital initiative.
