Annasaheb Magar Stadium to Undergo Major Revamp; Pimpri-Chinchwad's First Sports Club to be Established
The Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) is set to modernize the Annasaheb Magar Stadium. Notably, this location will also host the city’s first Pimpri-Chinchwad Sports Club. The administration has already prepared a project report for this initiative, which is expected to give a new dimension to the city’s sports landscape in the coming years.
The revitalization of the Annasaheb Magar Stadium is being carried out under the vision of MLA Mahesh Landge. However, there have been politically motivated rumors suggesting the stadium will be relocated elsewhere. These claims are false, and there is no truth to them.
The stadium’s development will span 26 acres, and a Pimpri-Chinchwad Sports Club will be established along the lines of Pune’s Deccan Gymkhana. This initiative is aimed at boosting the city’s sports and entertainment sector, with the Maharashtra Cricket Association managing the stadium. The project will include shopping malls, hotels, a clubhouse, and academies, creating a hub for sports, culture, entertainment, and an iconic architectural site.
Additionally, the stadium will feature badminton courts, squash courts, restaurants, a gymnasium, a health club, banquet facilities, card rooms, meeting rooms, a business center, residential rooms, tennis courts, swimming pools, a children’s area, and a jogging track. This comprehensive development will make the stadium a central hub for sports activities in the city.
Towards Becoming a Sports City
MLA Mahesh Landge has envisioned transforming Pimpri-Chinchwad into a “Sports City.” As part of this vision, an international-standard kabaddi and wrestling complex has already been developed in Bhosari. Other national and international level sports facilities, such as archery, boxing rings, rifle shooting, and skating complexes, have also been established. With the upcoming Annasaheb Magar Stadium and Pimpri-Chinchwad Sports Club, the city’s reputation and aesthetics are set to rise further.
The decision to renovate Magar Stadium was made during the Bharatiya Janata Party’s tenure in 2019 when Shravan Hardikar was the Municipal Commissioner. At that time, the Nationalist Congress Party opposed the initiative. Subsequently, when the Mahavikas Aghadi (MVA) came to power in the state, no action was taken regarding the stadium during their two-and-a-half-year term. The renovation work remained stagnant. Now, under the current ruling coalition, efforts are being made to advance the stadium and Pimpri-Chinchwad Sports Club project, Said MLA Mahesh Landge.
