The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced the 15-member squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2025, scheduled to be held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) from September 9 to 28. While the selectors have gone with a balanced squad for the continental tournament, several top performers of the IPL 2025 season have been left out, surprising fans and experts alike.

Despite producing standout performances in the Indian Premier League 2025, players like Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Prasidh Krishna, Krunal Pandya, and Khaleel Ahmed have not found a place in India’s Asia Cup squad.

Here’s a look at the notable omissions:

Shreyas Iyer (Punjab Kings)

The Punjab Kings skipper had a dream run in IPL 2025, guiding his team to the final and amassing 604 runs in 17 matches at a strike rate of 175.07. Despite his consistency, chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar clarified that Iyer would have to “wait for his chance” as there was no direct replacement for him in the current squad.

KL Rahul (Delhi Capitals)

Rahul made a strong comeback with 539 runs in 13 matches, including a century and three fifties for Delhi Capitals. His form sparked talks of a possible India return, but the selectors decided otherwise, leaving him out of the Asia Cup 2025 squad.

Sai Sudharsan (Gujarat Titans)

The Gujarat Titans opener was the Orange Cap winner of IPL 2025, scoring a record-breaking 759 runs in 15 games. Despite his exceptional season, Sudharsan was overlooked for the Asia Cup, a decision that has left fans questioning the selection policy.

Yashasvi Jaiswal (Rajasthan Royals)

Jaiswal continued his rise with 559 runs in 14 matches at a strike rate of 159.71, including six half-centuries. However, the Rajasthan Royals opener has been picked only as a reserve player and not part of the main squad.

Prasidh Krishna (Gujarat Titans)

The pace bowler won the Purple Cap after claiming 25 wickets in 15 matches for Gujarat Titans. Despite his wicket-taking form, Krishna missed out on selection, with the selectors opting for other pace options.

Krunal Pandya (Royal Challengers Bengaluru)

Krunal played a decisive role in RCB’s maiden IPL title win, scoring quick runs and picking up 17 wickets. His match-winning spell in the final earned him the Player of the Match award, but he too was ignored for the Asia Cup squad.

Khaleel Ahmed (Chennai Super Kings)

Representing CSK, left-arm pacer Khaleel impressed with 15 wickets in 14 matches, often striking in the powerplay overs. However, he did not make the cut for the Asia Cup team.

Asia Cup 2025 Outlook
India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2025 emphasizes experience and versatility, but the absence of several in-form IPL stars has sparked debates among cricket fans. With the tournament set to begin on September 9 in the UAE, all eyes will be on whether the selected squad delivers on the big stage.
