"Aurangzeb Was Not Anti-Hindu" – Abu Azmi’s Remark Sparks Outrage; MLA Mahesh Landge Demands Action
Calls for Action Against Those Creating Religious Divide
Pimpri: MLA Mahesh Landge, expressed his strong opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly over the statement made by SP MLA Abu Azmi. Landge accused Azmi of glorifying Mughal emperor Aurangzeb and demanded strict action against individuals who attempt to create religious discord in the state.
“Aurangzeb, a tyrant who committed inhumane atrocities on Hindustan, once pleaded for mercy before my king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, asking him to convert to Islam. And yet, some people glorify this Aurangzeb! Those who create religious strife, like Abu Azmi, should be crushed both in the Assembly and on the streets,” Landge declared.

Protests Outside Vidhan Bhavan
In response to Azmi’s statement, BJP and Mahayuti MLAs staged a demonstration on the steps of Vidhan Bhavan. Protesters, led by Landge, raised slogans such as “Our warrior was tortured to death… Make Aurangzeb’s descendants apologize!”
Speaking at the protest, Landge praised Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifice and dedication to Dharma. He emphasized how the movie Chhava has effectively brought Sambhaji Maharaj’s legacy to the younger generation. “How can a public representative like Abu Azmi not feel ashamed while glorifying Aurangzeb—the same tyrant who tortured my king to death?” he questioned.
‘Hindutva and Development Go Hand in Hand’
Landge also commended Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership, highlighting the BJP government’s dual commitment to Hindutva and economic progress. “Our Prime Minister takes a holy dip at the Kumbh Mela while also working towards making India a global economic powerhouse. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis tackles issues like cow slaughter, love jihad, religious conversions, and vote jihad, while envisioning a $3 trillion economy for Maharashtra. Unlike those whose sole agenda is to incite religious tensions, our leadership is focused on development,” he remarked.
Demand for Sedition Charges Against Azmi
Calling for strict action against Abu Azmi, Landge accused him of fueling religious divisions in Maharashtra. “Aurangzeb, who ruthlessly killed his own brothers for power, can never be compared to Bharat, who placed his brother’s sandals on the throne and upheld Ram Rajya. My king, Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, never surrendered until his last breath, whereas Aurangzeb begged for mercy. Those who glorify Aurangzeb and create religious discord must be held accountable,” he asserted.
Landge demanded that the Maharashtra government file sedition charges against Abu Azmi and take strict legal action. “Our Hindutva-driven Mahayuti government will not tolerate the glorification of tyrants like Aurangzeb. I will officially present this demand in the Assembly,” he concluded.
