Maharashtra’s Food and Civil Supplies Minister Dhananjay Munde has been diagnosed with Bell’s Palsy, a condition that causes temporary paralysis or weakness in the muscles on one side of the face. This disorder affects facial nerve function, making it difficult to speak and control facial movements.

Bell’s Palsy occurs due to damage to the seventh cranial nerve (facial nerve), which controls muscle movements in the forehead, eyelids, lips, cheeks, and jaw. In rare cases, both sides of the face may be affected. The condition is usually temporary, with most patients recovering within a few months, often without treatment.

The condition was first studied in 1821 by Scottish medical expert Sir Charles Bell, after whom it is named. While not life-threatening, medical intervention can help speed up recovery and prevent complications.
