The BH (Bharat) series number plate system was introduced in 2021 to simplify interstate vehicle movement for individuals who frequently relocate. Unlike standard number plates that start with state codes such as UP (Uttar Pradesh), DL (Delhi), or MH (Maharashtra), BH series plates begin with a registration year followed by “BH.” These plates allow vehicle owners to drive across states without requiring re-registration, making them ideal for professionals with transferable jobs.
Who is Eligible for a BH Series Number Plate?
This number plate is available only for private vehicles and can be obtained by:
- Central and state government employees
- Defense personnel
- Bank employees
- Private sector employees whose companies have offices in at least four states or Union Territories
Key Benefits of a BH Series Number Plate
Under standard rules, a vehicle registered in one state must be re-registered if used in another state beyond 12 months. The BH series plate eliminates this requirement, allowing unrestricted travel nationwide. Additionally, road tax is paid in installments, reducing the immediate financial burden.
How to Apply for a BH Series Number Plate
There are two ways to apply for a BH series plate:
- Online through the MoRTH Vahan portal
- Through a car dealership (recommended for convenience)
Application Process:
- The dealership submits Form 20 on behalf of the applicant.
- Private-sector employees must provide Form 60 (Working Certificate) and an official employee ID.
- The “BH” series option must be selected during application.
- Payment for fees and motor vehicle tax is done online.
- The RTO reviews the application and approves the BH series registration.
Once approved, the vehicle owner receives the BH series number plate, ensuring hassle-free interstate travel without additional paperwork.
