Bhide Bridge Reopens October 11 to Ease Diwali Traffic in Pune
With the festive season around the corner and roads expected to swell with vehicles and shoppers, Pune Traffic Police has decided to reopen Bhide Bridge starting October 11, 2025. The move is aimed at reducing congestion in the bustling Deccan and Vishrambaug areas as the city gears up for Diwali celebrations.
Previously, the bridge had been shut to allow construction of a pedestrian cable bridge that will eventually connect to the upcoming Deccan Metro Station. The project, led by Maha-Metro, is part of a broader urban development effort to improve public transit access in central Pune.
However, considering the spike in traffic expected during the festival rush, authorities have chosen to temporarily restore vehicular movement over the bridge to ensure smoother flow across the city’s core.
As per the directive issued by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Himmat Jadhav, vehicles will be allowed on Bhide Bridge between 6:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m. daily until further notice. This temporary reopening is specifically aimed at managing the anticipated traffic pressure during the Diwali shopping and travel surge.
Pune residents and commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time, abide by traffic regulations, and cooperate with traffic personnel to maintain road safety and avoid unnecessary delays.
