Bhushan Kumar Claims Singham Again Team Was ‘Unfair’ in Box Office Clash with Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3
Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again faced off at the box office, both hitting theaters on November 1, coinciding with the Diwali celebrations.
Bhushan Kumar has expressed his concerns over the clash between Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiya 3.
Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Ajay Devgn’s high-octane cop thriller Singham Again went head-to-head at the box office this Diwali. Both films premiered on November 1, generating considerable buzz regarding their rivalry in the lead-up to their release.
Both the films were successful at the box office. However, it is apparent that not all is well with the makers of the movies. In a candid conversation with Connect Cine, T-Series chief Bhushan Kumar shared insights into the behind-the-scenes efforts made to prevent the clash.
“I didn’t go to the Competition Commission. We had a lot of arguments with the Singham Again team because they were being unfair. In all survey reports, we were equal, on that basis, we had requested the competition commission to keep the screen allocation 50-50. Since our film was equally big, we demanded equal justice. But there was some personal interest behind this favouritism, I don’t want to blame the theatre chains. Since they were the distributors of the other film, they had a few reservations. Still, they wanted to support us to a great extent. We had a lot of tug-of-war between this,” says Bhushan Kumar.
Bhushan Kumar mentioned that he proposed initiating advance bookings to gauge audience interest, and as a result, Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 achieved an impressive opening of over Rs 36 crore, even with a major film competing against it.
He stated that although both sides made efforts to avoid the confrontation, neither film could change its release date. Bhushan Kumar clarified to Ajay Devgn and Rohit Shetty that he had initially announced Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 and had certain obligations to OTT platforms, which prevented him from delaying the film.
