Big Announcement: Three New Municipal Corporations Likely To Be Formed In Pune District, Says Ajit Pawar
Pune, August 8, 2025: Deputy Chief Minister and Pune Guardian Minister Ajit Pawar has announced that three new municipal corporations will be formed in Pune district. During an early morning inspection of the heavily congested Chakan Chowk and its surrounding areas, Pawar hinted that Chakan will soon have its own independent municipal corporation.
The Pune–Nashik and Chakan–Shikrapur roads experience daily traffic jams, as a large number of employees commute to the Chakan MIDC, which houses over 1,500 small and large industries employing around 3.5 lakh workers. Due to this, nearly one lakh vehicles pass through the area each day, making traffic management a major challenge.
While reviewing the traffic situation, Pawar stated that it has become essential to establish a separate municipal corporation in Chakan. He urged people not to compare Chakan with Baramati and emphasized the importance of resolving the traffic issues in the region.
He further announced that three new municipal corporations will be created in Pune district:
- One for Manjari, Fursungi, and Uruli Devachi
- One for Chakan and surrounding areas
- One for the Hinjawadi region
During his visit at 5:45 AM, Pawar gave instructions to the National Highway Authority, PMRDA, District Collector, and Municipal Commissioners regarding infrastructure improvements. He committed funds for expanding the Talegaon–Shikrapur road into a six-lane route and proposed an elevated Pune–Nashik highway.
Addressing police mismanagement during the inspection, Pawar reprimanded Pimpri-Chinchwad Police Commissioner Vinaykumar Choubey for causing unnecessary traffic jams by stopping vehicles: “Mr Choubey, this isn’t right. Why are vehicles being halted like this? Clear the traffic immediately.”
Pawar also showed photos of potholes to officials while reviewing the road conditions in the Chakan industrial area, further stressing the need for urgent improvements.
