15/July/2024
On Sunday, there were two fire incidents in the city. The first one happened at about 8 a.m. on July 14 at Sassoon General Hospital. Firefighters from Kasba Fire Station quickly went to the scene to handle the situation.
The fire broke out in a room in the radiology department of ward number two. The hospital staff acted promptly by opening the door and using extinguishers to try to put out the flames initially. The firefighters arrived quickly, assessed the situation, and managed to extinguish the fire.
The fire caused damage to computers, tables, chairs, monitors, printers, fans, routers, and other equipment. During the incident, the patients were safely relocated to a nearby ward. Fortunately, there were no injuries or casualties. It’s possible that the fire was triggered by an electrical short circuit.
The second incident involved a four-wheeler catching fire near Vinkar Hall in Padmavati at 2:56 p.m. on July 14. A fire truck was quickly dispatched from the Kanja fire station.
When the firefighters arrived, they noticed fuel leaking from the vehicle while the fire was still burning. They used foam to extinguish the flames and ensure safety. The diesel Ford vehicle likely caught fire due to a potential short circuit. Thankfully, there were no reported injuries.
Pradeep Khedekar mentioned that a Ford car from Solapur had reached just 45 minutes before the incident. The engine was still warm, and it is suspected that a possible short circuit ignited a cable inside the engine, leading to the car catching fire.
The fire truck from Katraj made it to the scene in just 3 minutes. We used foam to tackle the fire due to the diesel tank leak and managed to put out the fire within 5 minutes.
In addition to the fire incidents, there were 19 cases of trees falling and a drowning incident reported on July 14. The fire department responded promptly and effectively to all these emergencies.
At 4:48 p.m., a report came in about a woman drowning in the lake at Gujarwadi, Khopde Nagar. The fire brigade team conducted a search operation at the site.
