As fuel prices continue to rise and environmental concerns push the auto industry toward greener solutions, the demand for electric and hybrid vehicles is reaching new heights. Stepping into this fast-growing market, Chinese automaker BYD has launched a model that could transform the way Indians think about long-distance travel.

The newly unveiled BYD Seal 06 DM-i is a plug-in hybrid station wagon offering an impressive range of up to 2000 kilometers on a full tank of fuel and a fully charged battery combined. Priced from just 109,800 Yuan—roughly ₹13 lakh—the Seal 06 DM-i is positioned to attract both value-focused and eco-conscious buyers.

Traditionally, station wagons haven’t been the top choice for Chinese consumers, who have long favored SUVs. But this trend is starting to shift thanks to the rise of new-energy vehicles. With its sleek silhouette and clean, modern design, the Seal 06 DM-i brings fresh appeal to the segment, moving away from the bulkier crossover style.

Recent years have seen several Chinese manufacturers launch similar vehicles aimed at global markets, including the Zeekr 001, Zeekr 007 GT, Nio ET5 Touring, Denza Z9 GT, and Neta S. Many of these models have already arrived—or are heading—to European showrooms. BYD, too, is reportedly preparing for a European debut of its new hybrid wagon.

Visually, the Seal 06 DM-i combines elegant marine-inspired design with modern touches: sharp LED headlights, a large inverted trapezoidal grille, hidden door handles, blacked-out pillars, and a sleek tail lamp strip running across the rear. Together, these details give it a contemporary and slightly sporty feel.

The vehicle’s dimensions—4850 mm in length, 1890 mm in width, and 1505 mm in height, with a 2790 mm wheelbase—put it squarely in the family car category. Its drag coefficient of just 0.284 Cd improves aerodynamic efficiency, which in turn helps maximize range.

At its heart, the Seal 06 DM-i uses BYD’s fifth-generation plug-in hybrid system. The base version pairs a 1.5-liter petrol engine producing 74 kW (99 HP) with a 120 kW (161 HP) electric motor. This setup enables the wagon to accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 8.7 seconds—quick enough for daily drives and weekend getaways alike.

With its long-range hybrid powertrain, eye-catching looks, and affordable starting price, the BYD Seal 06 DM-i could be exactly the kind of car Indian drivers have been waiting for. Currently available in China, the buzz around an international launch hints it might soon arrive on Indian roads.

Whether for daily commuting between cities like Mumbai and Pune or planning long road trips without worrying about frequent charging stops, the Seal 06 DM-i promises a mix of efficiency, practicality, and style—all without breaking the bank.
