"Can Zomato Do More?": Man Appeals to Deepinder Goyal After Meeting Delivery Executive

A man from Delhi felt “deeply shaken” after encountering a young Zomato delivery executive who brought food to his home late one night. Himanshu Bohra recounted the story of Shiva Sarkar, a delivery worker in his early twenties who works relentlessly at night to support his family following his father’s passing.

In his LinkedIn post titled “The Story of Shiva Sarkar,” Bohra shared that after finishing his work at 3 AM one night, he ordered food through Zomato.

“When the doorbell rang, I got up to answer it. There stood Shiva Sarkar, the delivery executive, smiling warmly despite the frigid weather outside. However, there was something in his eyes—a heaviness, a story waiting to be told,” he wrote.

Bohra welcomed the Zomato delivery agent inside, offered him water, and asked about his well-being. It was at that moment that the young man broke down and shared his hardships. After the loss of his father, Sarkar had to leave school in the eighth grade and take a job to help support his family. Now, his earnings are directed toward preparing for his younger sister’s weddings.

Bohra expressed his admiration, stating, “I sat there, in awe of his strength.” He highlighted the situation of a young man who, instead of pursuing his dreams, is working tirelessly to support his family. Bohra reflected on many young individuals like him who are sacrificing their education and ambitions for their families’ survival.

After meeting Sarkar, he contemplated how society could assist people in similar situations. His post included a heartfelt appeal to Zomato CEO Deepinder Goyal, saying, “Deepinder Goyal, I love the Zomato app, but can we do more?” He suggested that Zomato could implement upskilling programs, scholarships, or accessible loans for these “unsung heroes.”

He posed the question, “What if these delivery executives could dream again? Could learn skills that open doors to brighter futures while earning a living?” The post, which featured a photo of Sarkar (shared with his permission), has since gained significant attention and gone viral.

Zomato responded promptly to the message.

The company commented, “Thanks for bringing this to our attention. This looks quite inspirational, and we are proud of our delivery universe,” asking for the order ID of the delivery partner to express their appreciation for his dedication and hard work.
