The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) has received approval from the Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) to deploy 241 personnel at the new terminal building of Pune airport, senior officials informed on Wednesday. These personnel will soon take charge of the new facility.

Pune airport director Santosh Dhoke confirmed on Tuesday that the last remaining BCAS approval for the floor plan, which includes the setup of food and beverage outlets at the new terminal, has been received.

Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Shrikant Kishore, CISF spokesperson, told news agencies, “The BCAS has relayed its nod to us, and the proposal to send the personnel has gone to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) for approval. It is expected to come very soon, though a definite date cannot be foretold.”

When asked about the infrastructural requirements for the new contingent, Kishore mentioned that an IG-rank officer in Bengaluru is currently assessing the situation and will provide a report. He added, “We believe airport officials must have readied the infrastructure as they too must be in a hurry to make the new terminal building functional without further delays.”

The new terminal building, inaugurated on March 10 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, remains non-operational. Airport officials had previously clarified that two BCAS approvals were pending—one for the inline baggage check-in system and another for the floor plan. Additionally, the arrival of CISF personnel was necessary before the terminal could commence operations.

Dhoke further stated, “Once the contingent arrives, they will take some time to adjust as both buildings will remain operational for a while. However, within four or five days after the personnel are deployed, operations will shift to the new terminal building.”
