Pune, October 14, 2025:To pay tribute to the 12 forts of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj that have been included in UNESCO’s list of World Heritage Sites, the state government has announced the celebration of “Amrit Durgotsav 2025” as a people’s festival (Lokotsav). The initiative aims to unite citizens in honouring the legacy of the Maratha warrior king while setting a world record for collective participation.

Under this unique campaign, citizens are encouraged to create a replica of any one of the 12 UNESCO-recognised forts and take a selfie with it. Participants can then upload their selfies on the official website — https://www.durgotsav.com

The initiative seeks to promote public involvement in preserving and celebrating Maharashtra’s glorious fort heritage.
