Cluster-Level Solid Waste Management Project Planned For Pune DistrictÂ
Pune, September 29, 2025: With rapid industrialization and urbanization in Pune district, the volume of solid waste has increased significantly, making it difficult to manage at the local level.
Due to unavailability of suitable land for setting up projects at the village level, authorities have decided to establish a consolidated cluster-level solid waste management project.
A meeting regarding this decision was held today at Mahatma Gandhi Hall, Pune Zilla Parishad, under the chairmanship of Chief Executive Officer Gajanan Patil. The meeting was attended by Additional CEO Chandrakant Waghmare, District Rural Development Agency Project Director Shalini Kadu, Joint Commissioner of Municipal Branch (Collector’s Office) Venkatesh Durvas, Sub-Divisional Officer (Khed) Anil Daunde, MIDC Chakan Regional Officer Nitin Gawali, Deputy CEOs Bhushan Joshi (Gram Panchayat) and Appasaheb Gujar (Water-Sanitation), Group Development Officer Vishal Shinde (Khed Panchayat Samiti), Chief Officer Ankush Jadhav (Chakan Municipality), Executive Engineer Bhandage (MIDC Chakan), along with sarpanches and officers of the concerned gram panchayats.
During the meeting, it was decided that gram panchayats neighboring Chakan Municipality and MIDC—including Kadachiwadi, Medankarwadi, Nanekarwadi, Kuruli-Kharabwadi, Khalumbre, Mahalunge, Nigoje, Moi, and Ambethan—will be included in the cluster.
The session discussed land availability, estimated expenditure, and the daily solid waste generated by each village. Following this, detailed planning was carried out for implementing the cluster-level solid waste management project with collective participation from all involved gram panchayats.
