CM Devendra Fadnavis Approves ₹288 Crore Bhimashankar Development Plan, Orders Fast-Track Implementation Before 2027 Kumbh Mela
Mumbai, June 27, 2025: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed authorities to swiftly implement the ₹288.17 crore Bhimashankar Development Plan to ensure a high-quality and well-planned transformation of the holy site before the upcoming Kumbh Mela in 2027.
During a review meeting held at Sahyadri Guest House, the development blueprint was formally approved. The plan focuses on crowd management and enhancing facilities in and around Shri Kshetra Bhimashankar, a site that attracts a large number of devotees and tourists throughout the year.
The meeting was attended by Cultural Affairs Minister Adv. Ashish Shelar, MLA Dilip Walse Patil, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi (who gave a detailed presentation), Additional Chief Secretaries O.P. Gupta (Finance), Rajgopal Deora (Planning), Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Ashwini Bhide, Secretary Dr. Shrikar Pardeshi, and other key officials.
CM Fadnavis emphasized the need to complete all developmental work before the Kumbh Mela and instructed departments to prepare a time-bound implementation schedule. Key features of the plan include:
Eco-Tourism Development:Leveraging Bhimashankar’s natural beauty by creating eco-tourism attractions and forest trails.
Tourist Facilities: Establishing a ropeway, hotels, restaurants, and accommodation for pilgrims, particularly at Nigdaale.
Transport Upgrades: Improving internal roads and travel infrastructure.
Helipad Facility: Planning for a helipad to enhance accessibility.
Support for Local Traders: New shops will be made available to local vendors and business owners.
Highway Development: Upgrading the Rajgurunagar-Taleghar-Bhimashankar highway to streamline traffic.
Security Measures: Ensuring tight security during the Kumbh Mela with additional police posts.
Uninterrupted Power Supply: Establishment of a dedicated power substation in the area.
This extensive development push is aimed at elevating Bhimashankar into a modern pilgrimage destination while preserving its cultural and ecological heritage.
