CM Fadnavis Pledges Tough Action Against Crimes in Pune, Targets Drug Networks
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has vowed to take strict action against rising criminal activities in Pune, revealing that 70% of offenders in Koyta gang-related cases are juveniles, often under the influence of drugs. Addressing the Legislative Assembly, he emphasized that the state will prosecute the handlers responsible for dragging minors into crime.
Fadnavis stated that nine Koyta gang attacks have been registered in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, involving 19 accused, of whom 13 are juveniles. While there is no organized gang behind these crimes, the government is determined to crack down on those manipulating young offenders. He highlighted that the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita allows booking handlers as prime accused in such cases.
NCP MLA Chetan Tupe pointed out that juveniles are lured into criminal activities using drugs, with recent police seizures of mephedrone sulfate injections worth ₹1.5 crore. He alleged that such drugs are being sold openly at paan shops in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, with foreign nationals, including Nigerians, involved in trafficking.
Fadnavis assured that the state police have launched an extensive anti-drug drive, seizing large quantities of narcotics in the past three years. He added that action has been taken against paan shops and courier services linked to drug distribution, and seven police personnel have been dismissed for their involvement in the drug trade.
Additionally, the government plans to set up a Financial Investigation Unit (FIU) to curb Ponzi schemes and fraudulent investment plans. The Maharashtra Protection of Investors Act will be enforced to recover investors’ money by liquidating assets of fraudulent institutions, ensuring better financial security for the public.
