A video showing a young couple allegedly engaging in a sexual act on a moving Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) AC bus has sparked outrage, prompting civic authorities to initiate disciplinary action against the bus conductor.
The 22-second video, which has gone viral on social media, was reportedly recorded by a motorist while the bus was stuck in traffic. The incident occurred on the Panvel-Kalyan route, and the bus appeared to be sparsely occupied at the time. The clip shows the couple, believed to be in their 20s, in a compromising position on the back seat of the vehicle.
In response to the viral footage, the NMMC has issued a show-cause notice to the bus conductor and filed a police complaint against him. According to officials, the conductor has been asked to submit a written explanation as to why no action was taken to prevent the incident.
“The conductor, who was seated at the front, claims he was unaware of the act taking place in the rear section of the bus,” an NMMC official stated. “However, he has been warned and directed to provide a detailed report on how such indecent behavior went unnoticed during the journey.”
RTI activist Anarjit Chauhan, who flagged the matter to the authorities, said the incident occurred on Sunday during a traffic slowdown. “The bus was lightly crowded, and someone from another vehicle noticed the couple engaging in the act near the window. The video was then recorded and shared with civic officials,” he added.
The incident has raised serious concerns over public conduct and the need for enhanced vigilance on public transport systems in Navi Mumbai.
