Customs Shocked After Opening Bag at Pune Airport — What They Found Was Worth Crores
Pune: In a major breakthrough, Pune Customs officials seized a large consignment of suspected hydroponic marijuana worth ₹10.5 crore at Pune International Airport. The consignment was found in the bag of a passenger who had arrived from Bangkok on July 24.
The accused, identified as Abhinay Amarnath Yadav, was intercepted by the Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Pune Customs based on suspicious behavior. During a thorough baggage check, officers discovered a quantity of a high-value, soil-less cultivated drug suspected to be hydroponic weed, a potent variety of cannabis.
Hydroponic marijuana is considered more powerful than conventional cannabis and is grown using advanced hydroponic techniques, without soil, under controlled conditions. This method enhances the drug’s potency and market value, making it a sought-after substance in illegal markets.
Authorities have arrested the passenger and booked him under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine whether the accused is part of a larger international drug smuggling network.
Customs officers have intensified surveillance measures at Pune Airport following the incident. Sources suggest this seizure could be a key lead in uncovering a major narcotics trafficking operation operating between Southeast Asia and India.
