Deadline Extended For RTE Admissions In Private Schools: Over 50,000 Seats Still VacantÂ

Maharashtra: Parents Urged To Avoid Fraudulent Offers In RTE Admissions
The admission process for the 25 percent reserved seats in private schools under the Right to Education (RTE) Act has been extended for the second time, giving parents of students who have not yet secured admission an additional opportunity to apply until August 8. This extension comes as more than 50,000 seats remain vacant. Director of Primary Education, Sharad Gosavi, announced the extension. This year, there are 1,05,242 seats available for RTE admissions across 9,217 schools in the state. Despite receiving 2,42,516 applications, only 93,009 students have been admitted so far. The waiting list currently includes 71,276 students.

Initially, the education department set a deadline from July 23 to July 31 for the admission process, during which 39,408 students secured their spots. Following this, the deadline was extended to August 5, resulting in an additional 53,200 admissions by Monday evening.
Gosavi cited the lower-than-expected number of admissions and the ongoing state rainfall as reasons for the extension, aiming to provide another chance for students who have not yet taken admission. Parents are encouraged to take advantage of this extended deadline to secure their child’s education in the reserved seats under the RTE Act.
