Dedicated Terminal for Private Aircraft Proposed at Pune Airport

Dedicated Terminal for Private Aircraft Proposed at Pune Airport
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has put forward a proposal to set up an exclusive terminal for helicopters and charter flights at Pune International Airport. The move is part of a larger 300-acre expansion plan aimed at strengthening the city’s aviation infrastructure.
At present, private and non-scheduled operators share facilities with commercial airlines, often leading to congestion and delays. The proposed general aviation terminal would separate these operations, offering smoother passenger handling and specialized services for business travellers, tourists, and high-profile flyers.
The upcoming facility is expected to feature dedicated check-in counters, private lounges, immigration and customs clearance, and faster security checks. Operators like Matrix, Vistara Aviation, and Pawan Hans are likely to benefit from the development, which is seen as a significant boost for private aviation in the region.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation, Murlidhar Mohol, said the demand for both commercial and private flights in Pune has grown rapidly with the city’s economic rise. He stressed that a dedicated terminal for chartered aircraft and helicopters is now a necessity, not a luxury. According to him, the project will ease pressure on the existing terminal, improve privacy and convenience for frequent business travellers, and serve as a modern gateway for global investors.
