Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to Slash Commute from 2.5 Hours to 25 Minutes on Key Stretch
Delhi’s new elevated corridor promises major relief from Mathura Road traffic with the opening of a six-lane highway section on November 12
Delhi’s stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, a vital section of India’s longest expressway, is set to open on November 12, drastically reducing travel time for commuters. South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri confirmed that the six-lane highway and two new bridges over the Agra and Gurgaon canals are ready to ease congestion, particularly along Mathura Road, and provide faster access to Faridabad, Palwal, and Sohna. This major infrastructure upgrade, costing Rs 5,500 crore, aims to cut travel from Maharani Bagh to Sohna from 2.5 hours to just 25 minutes.
Running through dense areas along the Yamuna riverbank, including Yamuna Khadar, Okhla Vihar, and Batla House, the elevated corridor includes a descending ramp near Maharani Bagh that connects to the Ashram area and DND flyover. This connection is expected to relieve traffic at some of the city’s busiest points.
Once complete, the 1,386-kilometer expressway will reduce Delhi-Mumbai travel time to 12 hours, supporting India’s logistics with improved links to 93 PM Gati Shakti economic nodes, 13 ports, and eight airports.
