Deputy CM Ajit Pawar Reviews COVID-19 Situation In Pune Division, Urges Vigilance
Pune, June 14, 2025:
Maharashtra’s Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar conducted a detailed review of the COVID-19 situation in the Pune Division during a meeting held at the Vidhan Bhavan. Although current symptoms are reported to be mild, Pawar emphasized that elderly individuals and those with comorbidities must exercise extra caution. He instructed the Health Department, municipal corporations, and local self-governing bodies to work in close coordination.
The meeting was attended by Divisional Commissioner Dr. Chandrakant Pulkundwar, Pune Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, Pune District Collector Jitendra Dudi, and Director of Health Dr. Vijay Kandevad. Officials from Kolhapur, Satara, Solapur, and Sangli also joined via video conferencing, including the Kolhapur Municipal Commissioner K. Manjulakshmi and respective District Collectors and CEOs of Zilla Parishads.
During the session, Dr. Kandevad gave a presentation noting that the subvariants JN, XFG, and GF7-9 of Omicron are currently being detected. These strains typically cause mild symptoms like fever, cough, and sore throat. However, individuals with conditions such as diabetes, cancer, or weakened immunity remain at higher risk. They are advised to avoid crowded areas, maintain hand hygiene, wear masks, and practice social distancing. Immediate medical consultation is recommended if respiratory symptoms worsen.
Assistant Director Dr. Prashant Wadikar, along with civil surgeons and district health officers from across the division, were present. They were instructed to maintain preparedness in all hospitals for potential outbreaks and to ensure regular reporting and monitoring, especially ahead of large gatherings like religious pilgrimages (Wari).
