India Post has launched a new digital address system called DIGIPIN, which stands for Digital Postal Index Number. It gives each place a special 10-character code based on its location on the map.

Each DIGIPIN shows a small 4×4 metre area using GPS coordinates (latitude and longitude). It can be used for houses, shops, buildings, or open areas. This system works with the current PIN codes and makes addresses more accurate.

DIGIPIN is helpful in areas where proper addresses don’t exist. It can be used in villages, remote places, or crowded areas where house numbers are missing or confusing. The code stays the same for a location, even if buildings change.

To get your DIGIPIN, you can visit the “Know Your DIGIPIN” website by India Post. If your phone or computer has location/GPS turned on, it will show your DIGIPIN. India Post also plans to launch a mobile app. The service can work offline too.

This new system is helpful for deliveries. It helps delivery workers reach the right place, even without a proper address. It can also help ambulances, police, or disaster teams find people quickly.

DIGIPIN is open-source, meaning other apps or companies can use it too. It does not collect personal data only your location is used to create the code.

DIGIPIN will help in many ways. It can improve delivery in cities and villages, support emergency services, and make government work easier. It can also help with digital services like online shopping, travel, and address verification.

This new system does not replace regular PIN codes but adds more detail. With DIGIPIN, India is moving toward clearer and more modern ways of sharing locations.
