However, he emphasized that the steps taken so far are inadequate: “This innocent soul was tortured for nearly an hour. The guard didn’t just fail in his responsibility—he turned into a tormentor. We demand a harsh and exemplary punishment for such inhuman behaviour.”
The video sparked an emotional storm on social media, with netizens pouring out their grief and anger. One person commented, “That soul didn’t deserve to die like this.” Another shared, “I’m sitting in my office cafeteria and crying. Dear Lord! What has happened to mankind?”
Many called for wider accountability. A user wrote, “Please take strict action related to society members as well.” Another echoed this sentiment, saying, “The atrocities against animals are increasing every day. Why isn’t there a system to stop this? The society must also be held accountable!”
Addressing these concerns, Rangare clarified that the residential society did not direct the guard to harm the dog. “The residents had only asked the guard to help bring the dog down safely. Sadly, instead of showing compassion, he harassed the animal for nearly an hour, forcing it into a corner until it jumped.”
While some appreciated the activist’s efforts to raise awareness, they also criticized the men seen assaulting the guard in the footage. “Violence is not the answer,” one user noted, “but neither can we stay silent when such cruelty is inflicted on voiceless beings.”
The tragedy has triggered a larger conversation about the responsibilities of residential societies and the treatment of stray animals. Some questioned whether society officials should also be investigated, but Rangare reiterated that the direct responsibility lay with the guard, whose actions were “inexcusable and horrifying.”
