DRI Pune Seizes ₹4.47 Cr Worth Smuggled Gold, Busts Organized Smuggling Syndicate
Acting on specific intelligence that smuggled gold was being transported from Mumbai to Pune by a carrier travelling in a bus for further disposal at Pune, officers of DRI Pune mounted surveillance and intercepted the bus at Talegaon toll plaza.
Personal search of the carrier resulted in recovery of two pouches having 16 egg shaped capsules of gold in paste form.
In follow up actions, the supplier, his accomplice and the receiver were apprehended at Mumbai and Pune respectively. All 4 accused accepted the smuggled nature of the gold and that they had been operating as an organised gold smuggling syndicate.
Total 5918 gm of recovered gold valued at Rs4.47 Cr was seized along with Rs 22 lakh purported to be sales proceeds from smuggling, under the provisions of Customs act, 1962. All 4 accused have been arrested under the provisions of Customs Act,1962.
