Drone Usage Restricted In Pune Rural Areas; Prior Police Permission Now Mandatory
Pune, May 30 – A new directive has been issued restricting the use of drones for filming in Pune Rural District. As per the order, private individuals, event management companies, and professional photographers must now inform the local police station at least seven days in advance and obtain formal permission from the officer-in-charge before using drone cameras.
The district includes important religious sites, dams, and central institutions, raising concerns that drone surveillance could be misused for terrorist activities. Additionally, several complaints have been received from residents in areas like Daund, Baramati, and Shirur about drones flying at night, creating a sense of fear among the public. Authorities also suspect that sand mafias could be using drones for reconnaissance purposes, and there’s a risk of thefts being facilitated through such surveillance.
Due to these concerns, a preventive order has been issued banning the use of drones, remote-controlled microlight aircraft, paragliders, paramotors, hang gliders, hot air balloons, and other similar flying objects in the district.
Violating this order—i.e., using a drone without prior police approval—will be considered a breach under Section 233 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (Indian Penal Code). The directive was issued by Additional District Magistrate Jyoti Kadam.
