Mumbai, July 23, 2025: Following the resignation of India’s Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar, the Ministry of Home Affairs has officially accepted his decision through a Gazette notification dated July 22, 2025.

The Election Commission of India (ECI), exercising its powers under Article 324 of the Constitution, has begun preliminary preparations to conduct the Vice Presidential elections. These elections will be held in accordance with the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Act, 1952, and the Presidential and Vice Presidential Elections Rules, 1974.

The Commission has confirmed that key arrangements are underway, and the official election schedule will be announced soon after the initial groundwork is completed.

As part of the preparatory process, the ECI is finalizing the electoral college comprising elected and nominated members of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. It is also appointing the Chief Returning Officer and Assistant Returning Officers, while compiling and circulating reference material related to previous Vice Presidential elections.
