Vacation turns tragic as a woman drowns in Bhagirathi river while her 11-year-old daughter films the moment.

What began as a joyful moment during a family vacation in Uttarakhand turned into a heart-wrenching tragedy when a 35-year-old woman from Nepal drowned while filming a social media reel in the Bhagirathi river. The incident occurred at Manikarnika Ghat in Uttarkashi on Monday.

In a video now circulating online, the woman is seen smiling at the camera and entering the river,  a primary tributary of the Ganges, before losing her footing and being swept away by the powerful current. Her 11-year-old daughter, who was filming the reel on her mother’s instructions, is heard crying out, “Mummy,” as the horrifying moment unfolded.

The mother had reportedly handed her phone to her daughter and asked her to record a video of her in the water. Bystanders quickly alerted local authorities, prompting an immediate search and rescue operation. However, as of now, her body has not been recovered.

The emotional impact on the daughter, who witnessed her mother struggle and disappear into the water, has been immense. She is currently under the care of family members in Uttarkashi.

This tragedy serves as a serious warning about the risks associated with shooting social media content in dangerous environments. It echoes a similar incident from July last year, when 26-year-old influencer Aanvi Kamdar fell into a gorge while filming a reel in Maharashtra’s Raigad district.

Local officials and residents have urged the public to prioritize safety over viral moments, especially in regions with natural hazards like fast-flowing rivers and steep terrains. An X post about the Uttarkashi incident described how the woman was swept away by strong currents and noted that efforts to recover her body are still underway.
