Employee Fakes Sick Leave for Coorg Trip, Busted by Viral Instagram Reel
Weekend getaway turns sour as boss spots employee in vacation video after ‘stomach flu’ excuse
What was meant to be a relaxing escape to Coorg quickly spiraled into workplace embarrassment for an employee who faked illness to skip work. The employee, who had claimed to be suffering from a stomach flu, ended up going viral on Instagram unfortunately, not in a good way.
In a now-viral Reddit post, the employee recounted how they took a Friday off under the pretense of being unwell but were later caught in a background reel at a homestay where someone else was dancing. The reel, which gained over 13,000 likes on Instagram, apparently reached their boss.
“Pretended to be on sick leave and got caught,” the employee wrote. “Got tagged in a background reel… Video blew up… Monday, my skip-level manager sent the reel link and said: ‘Hope your stomach is better.’”

Although the employee wasn’t fired, they admitted that their manager hasn’t approved any work-from-home requests since then. “He doesn’t trust me now,” the post concluded.
Redditors found the situation hilarious. One user wrote, “This is hilarious,”
while another joked, “I cracked up reading this.”
A third chimed in, “Deleting Instagram right now.”
In a separate Reddit post, another employee highlighted a far more serious concern, accusing her boss of repeatedly texting her during approved leave and even demanding GPS location and photos of a family member who had undergone cancer surgery. The post has sparked online debate over toxic work culture and boundaries.
