From January 14-15, everywhere in Assam, you will be able to witness Magh Bihu, also known as Bhogali Bihu, one of the most vibrant and significant festivals celebrated in Assam. Magh Bihu marks the end of the harvesting season and this is when the Assamese communities

come together to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest.

Bihu Bhuj, a vibrant festival deeply rooted in Assamese culture, is an annual extravaganza celebrated with zeal and enthusiasm. This cultural fiesta marks the Assamese New Year and embraces the arrival of spring. The festivities typically include traditional dance forms, melodious Bihu songs, and the vibrant display of Assamese attire.

As part of the celebration, communities come together to perform the Bihu dance, a lively and rhythmic expression of joy. The beats of traditional instruments like the dhol, pepa, and taal accompany the dancers, creating an immersive experience. The joyous atmosphere is further enhanced by the aroma of traditional Assamese delicacies prepared during this festive occasion.

Bihu Bhuj not only signifies the renewal of nature but also fosters a sense of unity among the Assamese people. Magh Bihu marks the end of the harvesting season and this is when the Assamese communities come together to express gratitude for a bountiful harvest. One of the highlights of Magh Bihu is the construction of Meji, a structure made of bamboo and thatch. On the morning of Magh Bihu, Meji is set on fire. This ritual symbolises the end of the old and the beginning of the new, as well as the burning of any negativity or impurity.
